DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!!
When out for a leisurely boat ride, it is likely that you have seen numerous docks and bulkheads that have failed or just look bad due to poor construction. Unfortunately it is more common than necessary, due to poor and unscrupulous marine contractors that are in the northeast Florida marketplace. You can protect yourself before your project even begins by simple research of some or all of the following guidelines. If you have any concerns whatsoever, trust your gut feeling and continue your search with another contractor. We offer you to step our company through each of these steps as well for proof of the outstanding services we provide.
- Contact reputable local dock suppliers and ask them if they have any concern with the marine contractor that you are considering.
- Don Pardue at Wood Treaters (904) 358.2507
- Eddy Bryan at Southern Lumber (904) 695.0748
- Tyler Wallace at Decks & Docks (904) 737.4994
- Perform a quick search on the Better Business Bureau. We are accredited members.
- Click here to verify the license of the contractor you are considering. Our license number is CBC1257787.
- Check to see if the company is licensed and is current with their license
- Keep in mind that the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation have issued numerous cease and desist orders on marine related projects by unlicensed contractors over the last few months in NE Florida. Avoid the frustration (and potential financial loss) of dealing with unlicensed contractors.
- Click here to verify if the contractor you are considering is covered for workers' compensation insurance.
- Ask for an insurance certificate and verify that it has General Liability insurance AND Workmans Compensation insurance under code 6006F for USL&H and the Jones Act (if they plan to use a barge for construction).
- Verify that your name and address are on the insurance certificate and that their company's name (not some other contractor's name) is the holder of the insurance.
- If your contractor does not carry the insurance, by law YOU are required to carry the insurance for them while they are working on your project.
- Know who is working in your back yard. Perform a quick Duval county public record search on the owner and / or company to see if you really want them working in your back yard. You can also perform searches in St. Johns and Clay counties although most public information for northeast Florida is covered in Duval public records.
